Covid-19
Covid-19 So we are only in the third day of Lockdown and I feel an incredible sense of calm and peace. Odd really as I don't often have this feeling.
Enid, a friend of my deceased father passed away amidst all the turmoil and although at the age of 92 , her passing was accelerated by a bad fall a week ago, surgery midweek which seems to have resulted in a stroke. With her age against her a medical decision was made to not resuscitate and she was released from hospital to a hospice where she passed yesterday afternoon. And prior to receiving a call stating that she had passed I felt this incredible calm. Sadly, due to the lockdown , she died alone, no visitors allowed due to the virus and no funeral planned for the same reason. That is our new norm and a new sad.
Of course the nayersayers will talk about my incredible calm and peace soon after Enids passing and before I received the call about this being imagination, definitely not supported by science, etc, etc however I have read extensively about these kinds of events, about the energy remaining fleetingly post life, and this not from only hypnotherapists ( aaargh, another pseudoscience I hear you say) but also acclaimed medical doctors and professionals in the field of medical field who can explain science to a point, but acknowledge there is an unexplained window which remains unsolved.
I experienced the same thing when my mother passed back in 1981, but was most profound as I stepped out of the funeral church service into the sunlight. A psychologist friend illuminated , pun intended, some light on the subject but it was only half of the answers I was looking for.
Covid-19 is going to get worse before it gets better . Certainly in South Africa I am of the opinion that if this should spread into the informal settlements where TB, HIV is rife, this will reach epidemic proportions very quickly. Further to this, in a populace which is ill disciplined and prone to service protests and entitlement, this having historically been encouraged and supported by regional and national government , can quickly manifest itself into a social unrest, looting and plundering of shops, retailers and wholesalers. Bad elements, of which we have many with 73 gangs in Cape Town alone ( The Enforcers - Caryn Dolley) , will use the opportunity to make inroads into other areas to ensure their turf is both protected and expanded upon. THIS, does not auger well for SA. We have a collapsed economy, downgraded to junk status 3 days ago, failing infrastructure and with Covid-19, this downward spiral will escalate.
That is the bad news.
The good news is that opportunity can be found everywhere. We are now the "global cheap labour" , not a label we want to carry but it does create opportunity, and if we can come out of this coronavirus challenge we can be a global competitor in manufacturing and production.
We can reduce our unemployment dramatically in the process...IF we don't go 4IR and IF unions engage with business with a clear understanding of the end goal. We have access to seaways to transport goods to a global economy. We have skills which need to be shared to ensure continuity. We have ingenuity if allowed to expand on this. There is a new world order that can rise from this and there is no reason why South Africa cannot capitalise in these times, IF we are prepared to work together.
We fail as a collective if we don't succeed in this.
