The banning of the book - Black Beauty

As at today I saw that the film "Gone with the Wind" has been removed by HBO due to the protests and movement started following the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the police in the USA.

The reason for the removal of the film was provided by HBO as follows  " HBO Max said the 1939 film was "a product of its time" and depicted "ethnic and racial prejudices" that "were wrong then and are wrong today".  More info regarding the removal can be read here -  BBC.com

This made me think back to when the Apartheid Government in South Africa, out of absolute ignorance and stupidity, banned the book Black Beauty by Anna Sewell .

The book was actually about a black stallion yet the authorities thought that this was about a black woman and as such was immediately banned.

Read more about the book here although I could find no reference to the banning in South Africa in the notes.  Black Beauty / Wikipedia

Reference to the banning I found here where it appears as anecdotal and a myth. Banning of Black Beauty by Anna Sewell My own recollection was from my father in the 1970's when I wanted to read the book when I was in my early teens. At that time my father knew one of the people, a Professor Gonin , who was on the censor board. She was a liberal and all I can recall is that I could not get the book.

Crazy is what crazy does and again, underpins the importance of voting the crazy out.

So vote!
